Accounts Officer

About the Role

We have an opportunity for an experienced Accounts Officer to join our Finance team and provide accurate and efficient accounts support across the organisation.


Your Role as an Accounts Officer

As the Accounts Officer your role will include:

  1. Processing of accounts payable, including data entry and supplier payments
  2. Processing of accounts receivable, including:
    • sending out invoices for debtors
    • processing invoices receipting and banking
    • following up outstanding invoices in a timely and courteous manner
    • reconciling end-of-month debtor report
  3. Reconciliation of all bank accounts during month and ensure month end reconciliation completed.
  4. Preparation of routine financial reports in a user-friendly format, including the ability to use Excel to enable customisation of data.
  5. Addressing general accounts queries as required.
  6. Ensuring compliance with all applicable accounting standards.
  7. Obtaining and maintaining knowledge of National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) requirements and Terms of Business for registered providers.

About You

Required skills and personal attributes (Selection Criteria)

The following selection criteria must be addressed by candidates using their relevant personal and professional skills, qualifications, training, competencies, past achievements and areas for development.

  • Proven experience in accounts-based positions including processing of accounts receivable, accounts payable and bank reconciliation function.
  • Strict adherence to Nexus financial policies and procedures and policies and procedures of the broader organisation.
  • Well-developed organisational and prioritising skills.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team with strong interpersonal skills and motivation to work as part of a high performing team.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and particularly Excel.
  • Experience in using contemporary corporate specific accounting systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum of three years’ demonstrated experience in a similar position.


Working in the disability sector means you will also need the following:

  • Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old)
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Card (with a NDIS endorsement/employment type)
  • Unrestricted Tasmanian Driver’s license
  • Certificate of full Covid19 vaccination (in-line with government requirements).

Note: A pre-employment physical will be required for this role (including drug and alcohol testing).
