Nexus Participation in Research Project

Monday, May 22, 2017 - 4:05pm

Nexus recently participated in a research project by the Summer Foundation.  The Nexus Independent Living Program (NILP) was selected as one of 4 innovative programs looking at different ways to offer 24 hour support to people outside of the traditional group home accommodation model.  The report, titled Living Like Everyone Else, challenges us to see disability accommodation as being about LIVING not HOUSING.  The report talks about eleven implementation strategies that will contribute to people with a disability and complex needs being able to “live like everyone else”.  A report worth reading for anyone involved in trying to make accommodation services both responsive and supportive of people living as independently as they can.  https://www.summerfoundation.org.au/resources/living-like-everyone-else/
