NDS Disability Hot Topics Breakfast

Members of our Board and management team had a fantastic time at the National Disability Services Disability Hot Topics Breakfast.

Laurie Leigh, NDS CEO, and Rohan Braddy, NDS President and Chair, provided great insight into the changes facing the sector. This included:

  • Staffing challenges: finding the right people for the job and ensuring they are well trained and well supported
  • Rising operating costs: included discussion on additional financial strain providers face from changes to NDIS funding. This is particularly seen in Supported Living funding.
  • Changes in Supported Employment – the way that Supported Employment is now being managed has changed as we move to new models of providing this service across the sector.

Ingrid Ganley from the Tasmanian Government spoke about the changes coming from government in the way that it supports disability service providers. The audience were particularly interested to hear the plans around the proposed new Commissioner role.

Our own CEO, Mark Jessop, was also on hand to provide MC duties for the morning.

Thanks to the NDS for organising this face-to-face meeting. It gave us the chance to catch up with our colleagues from across the state and share ideas on how we continue moving forward.
