There was a buzz of excitement at the end of Hornby Road in Goodwood this week as we officially opened our Recycle Rewards Depot, proudly operated by our social enterprise, SEED.
The event was well attended by members of the community and began with a Welcome to Country by Tasmanian Aboriginal woman Niara Mansell, followed by remarks from TasRecycle CEO Ken Roughley, Tomra Cleanaway Tasmania General Manager Corey Wingard, and Nexus and SEED CEO Mark Jessop.
The launch was a huge milestone for everyone involved, especially for our staff who have been training and preparing behind the scenes for months leading up to the big day.
It was amazing to see our SEED team in action, confidently showcasing their skills and professionalism as they operated advanced machines to process thousands of containers from community members throughout the day.
Alongside SEED’s cleaning, gardening, retail, and tagging and testing services, the Recycle Rewards Depot – Goodwood will provide people with disability with training and employment opportunities at award wages.
As with SEED’s other services, we have seen the team grow tremendously since day one of this project, gaining new skills and a real boost to their confidence.
“We are very pleased to be able to launch the first Recycle Rewards Depot in Southern Tasmania today,” Nexus and SEED CEO Mark Jessop said.
“This collaboration has already provided a host of training and employment opportunities for people with disability, and has connected us with some great businesses and community groups who are keen to support the depot and our Container Collection Service,” he said.
“We are very excited to see what happens next now that we are officially open!”
The SEED Recycle Rewards Depot, the first of its kind in Southern Tasmania is a drive-through, undercover facility capable of processing over 100 containers per minute.
Customers can choose to receive their 10 cent refund in cash, via the Recycle Rewards app, or donate it to a registered charity.
Thank you to everyone who supported us and made this event a great success!
