About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Manager to lead our Community Services division. The role will be based at our office in Dowsing Point, Hobart, but will oversee services provided statewide.

The applicant will require clear knowledge of the issues facing people living with disability, a strong commitment to a rights-based framework, a passion for developing peoples’ capacity, and the ability to lead staff to do the same.

About the Nexus Community Services team

Our Community Services Team delivers services to clients across Tasmania, focusing on the key areas of social and recreational activity, and Capacity Building.

Our Capacity Building teams also provide specialist services to support people to engage in employment exploration and participation. Our focus is to work with clients to decide on the activities that suit them best to build their social skills and self-confidence, and to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Our services are delivered 1:1 in the community and in client homes.  We also have three Hub sites that offer the opportunity to develop and deliver flexible programs.

Key Responsibilities

As the Manager Community Services, you will:

  • Undertake managerial or specialised functions under a wide range of conditions to achieve results in line with divisional/corporate goals.
  • Exercise managerial control, involving the planning, direction, analysis and evaluation of operations and processes.
  • Support Assistant Managers with complex client issues.
  • Provide mentoring and supervision to Assistant Managers.
  • Develop work practices and procedures for various projects.
  • Establish work area outcomes.
  • Prepare budget submissions for senior officers and/or the organisation.
  • Develop and implement significant operational procedures, including the expansion of the Community Services programs across Tasmania.
  • Review operational processes to determine their effectiveness.
  • Develop appropriate methodology and apply proven techniques in providing specialised services

About you

Successful candidates will have the following (Selection Criteria): 

  • Experience in overseeing, leading and shaping the establishment of programs, procedures and work practices that impact the activity and outcomes of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with limited direction and exercise managerial responsibility for various functions within a division.
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for decision-making and the provision of expert advice to other areas of an organisation.
  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to the management team by taking control and co-ordinating major work initiatives whilst staying on time and in budget.
  • Ability to take on a high level of responsibility and authority with complex decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff to support them in achieving outcomes.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a related field, such as Business Management or Community Services, or equivalent in relevant experience
  • Experience of the NDIS or ability to quickly acquire knowledge relevant to this position (desirable)
  • Experience working with MYP (desirable)

Working in the disability sector means you will also need the following:

  • Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old)
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Card (with NDIS endorsement)
  • Unrestricted Tasmanian Driver’s license
