Focus on the frontline at jobs fair

The focus was on Nexus’ frontline roles this week as our team spoke with hundreds of people about the enriching work of being a disability Support Worker.

The Glenorchy Jobs Fair was an initiative of the Glenorchy Jobs Hub. The event was held at the council lawns, attracting over 30 stallholders and welcoming upwards of 1000 job-seekers.

Nexus has many Support Worker positions coming up this year, across the divisions of Community Access, Supported Independent Living, Children and Youth, Planned Respite, Nexus Complex and Individualised Support, and Customised Employment.

Nexus’ Talent and Recruitment Advisor, Christie, said the opportunity to connect with job-seekers in-person was invaluable, and the key to spotting the best candidates was by finding out if they have a love for helping people.

“There is nothing like those face to face opportunities, to meet people and hear about what work they are interested in, then figuring out which roles we have that work best,” she said.

“It is an exciting time with students coming through school and new people coming to the state – then there is also that lived experience in supporting and caring for others which we value so much.”

Nexus is renowned for its celebration of employees of all backgrounds, cultures, unique life experiences, and work histories – which Christie and the rest of the onsite team discussed with the public.

We also offer extensive training and upskilling opportunities, and frequently seek to promote from within – allowing us to retain our rich base of talent.

“A lot of people know us in the industry for our professional development,” Christie said.

Glenorchy City Council Mayor Bec Thomas officially opened the jobs fair, highlighting the benefits of connecting real job-seekers with real employment opportunities in-person.

“It’s about understanding what the skills needs are now, and into the future, for our local employers,” Ms Thomas said.

“I really hope you find some great matches and some great people to take into your workforce now and into the future today.”
